Matthew has commenced his 1st year of competition in Europe. Matt is competing throughout the year in the Euromax series, where he will run under the watchful eye of Paul Carr, Team Principal of Paul Carr racing. As a team driver Matthew will be pushing hard to emulate some of the past successes that Paul  has had. In addition to the Euromax, Matt will also drive in a number of the British Super 1 series with the odd excursion to Japan to compete in the Japanese RMC.

Marc Hynes who has worked with Matthew for the past 12 months moves onto the role of Driver Development for the new Virgin Racing F1 Team and has passed the task of mentoring Matthew over to Paul. Matthew ran with Paul twice during the 2009 season to get a feel for the step up to the strong European challenge ahead of him. As usual fitness is key, to strong performance and Matt has spent the past couple of months readying himself for the challenge and continues to improve on his overall fitness levels. Whilst in between the European races, matthew has been under the carful coaching of Fiona Hamilton, 5 times New Zealand Karting Champion. Fiona comes from a motor-sport family, with father Alan and brother matt both competing at the highest level of the sport.

  • 2008 Competed in 3 rounds of the Philippines Shell Open Karting Championship with podium finishes in each round
